I may have embraced the trend that Halloween season starts July 5th, but i have always felt this challenge really kicks off the season for me. I can’t believe this will be my 6 of year doing the challenge and only the second time I have posted about it. I keep track of my watches every year through LetterBox. The basic idea is to watch 100 horror movies that you have never seen from August 1 to Halloween. Last year I completed the challenge with 101 movies watched. I probably could have beaten my record of 108 from 2022 if I didn’t start my annual Halloween Franchise watch before Halloween instead of starting it on Halloween. I’m going to go for a personal best this year.

In previous years I have done a theme by picking an actor like Barbara Crampton, or Kane Hodder to watch all available movies I haven’t seen. I also decided to just try to clear my watchlists on different streaming services. Thanks to this challenge I have watched some amazing hidden gems and some real stinkers. I’m not sure if I will do a theme this year or not. My life has been pure chaos so my planning has been a little lax as of late. There has been some amazing horror movies out in the last year that I still haven’t gotten a chance to watch. Some because I’m waiting to watch it with my wife, she doesn’t want to watch movies like we used to, and some because it just hasn’t been on a streaming platform I subscribe to.
I have noticed that what ever the first movie of a Letterbox list, becomes the main photo when you share it. Over the years I have tried to start this challenge list with a movie I have been excited to watch. Last year it was Until Dawn which was so good. This year my wife and I are going to watch Obsession. We were trying to wait and watch Backrooms first because reviews have said Backrooms is not as good as Obsession however we just can’t wait anymore.
Since you can’t start a Letterbox list without adding a movie, and usually I watch and rate the movie before adding it to a list. This year I started the list first, knowing what my first movie will be, I decided I can share my list now and you all can follow along throughout the challenge if you like.
