Old movie new review. Maybe you wonder why I’m reviewing a movie that is 21 years old??? Well, I’m old, and this is one of my favorite slasher movies. But seriously, I had the pleasure to guest on my friend’s podcast; Sinnful Sarah’s Horror Menagerie. We dove deep into her theme for July “Real Monsters exist… They’re called humans”. Don’t even get me started.
The Devil’s Rejects is Rob Zombie’s second movie and sequel to House of 1,000 Corpses. This movie follows the Firefly Family as they are on the run, and being hunted down by Sheriff Wydell. Sheriff Wydell’s brother was murdered by Mother Firefly in House of a 1,000 Corpses and he is trying to walk the line and follow the book to capture Otis, Baby, and Captain Spaulding. We get to watch as his emotions and mental state crumble and push him to the edge of sanity. This movie has one of the best endings and as much as I like the 3rd movie in the trilogy, Three From Hell, it did kind of step on this ending. Check it out for yourself.

The Devil’s Rejects clearly had a bigger budget and allowed Rob Zombie to expand his vision. This movie was a huge contrast to House of 1,000 Corpses’a colorful campy classic horror style. The Devil’s Rejects is gritty, real, and brutal. Everything in this movie has been dialed up. The Gore, Swearing, and character development makes this such a remarkable film. It is tough to watch if you are not a fan of realistic gore, but the story is well written and this gives us a deeper insight into just who the Firefly Family is.
I don’t want to go to far into detail here because we talk about all the kids stuff on Sarah’s podcast. This is still one of my favorite horror movies and it holds up. 🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 rating and one I watch frequently. It is also one of the few movies given two thumbs up back when Ebert and Roper used to do movie reviews. They hated horror so this was a big deal.
