Halloween Books to keep you up at night 2026

I read a lot of Horror and there are so many incredible authors out there which makes my little black heart so happy. When I started to really think about what books i wanted to feature for this year’s Halloween week, I decided bite-size or “fun-size“ horror was the way to go.

I absolutely love an anthology/collection and I have read some fantastic ones just this year. It was so easy to pick out a couple great collections for your reading pleasure. To start things off, I’m doing a collection of a lot of my favorite authors which was edited extremely well by Ellen Datlow

This is a fantastic collection of 19 amazingly talented horror writers and their stories around the histories and traditions of the greatest season of the year. Of course one of my favorite stories was “The Devil’s New Year” by Stephen Graham Jones, but all of these were so well written. A few of my other favorites from this was “The Kuker” by Alma Katsu, “That Hannie Agnes” by Josh Malerman, and “Ankou’s NIght” by Brian Emerson.

I am a huge Jeneva Rose fan and I was so excited to be able to read this collection of three novellas around the dark thoughts in her mind expanded and made fiction. The link above is my full review I posted awhile ago and there is a fantastic write up by Fangoria’s Community & Content Manager Kimberly Leszak which happens to have a quote from yours truly in it. My favorite of the three stories in this was “The Nightmare House” which is about a haunted house which ties in very well to my previous post about Haunted house movies. I did say I love a theme. 😁

This was the second book of Nat Cassidy’s that I read and it gave me a good range of stories to chose from. Rest Stop was one of those stories I really had been waiting to read for awhile and this finally got me to. It did not disappoint. My other favorite story from this collection was nice which actually is a Christmas story so now you have something to read for the upcoming holiday season.

This is another one I did. Full write up on that is linked under the picture. I love Ronald Malfi and one of my favorite of his is Small Town Horror. This is the largest collection of short stories in my recommendations for this year. This book doesn’t really have an overall theme to the stories but I can say a lot of them are dark and leave you feeling ick after. “The Dinner Party” and “The Housewarming” were my favorites from this collection.

If movies are not your thing and you’d rather hide under a blanket and avoid the trick-or-treaters, these books will keep you company in the dark.
