Screamboat (2025)

It has been a little bit since I did a movie review. Most people review the big name studio movies but I like to get the lesser known movies out there in front of people. A little late to the party for this review but I will explain that latter. I have really enjoyed these public domain horror movies and this one I was really excited for. Dare I say this is the best yet.

Now that you have been acquainted with what the movie is about let me tell you why I was so excited for this. The thought of Goody Goody Mickey Mouse going homicidal was pure gold. I have no issue with treasured children’s characters from my youth turning evil. Throw in the fact David Howard Thornton (Terrifier Franchise) is the lead mouse, and Kaley Hyman (Terrifier 2) was a supporting role was all I needed. David Howard Thornton has a gift for playing the physical silent type that is just perfection.

The movie starts out with the introduction to our cast of victims, I mean characters. We see 2 maintenance workers on an older Staten Island Ferry running since the the 20’s. While doing some repairs and forcing open a sealed hatch Steamboat Willie is released. In true slasher style Steamboat Willie begins to wreak havoc on all the unsuspecting people trying to get home.

I love when there are little nods or Easter Eggs to other movies or franchises. One of those is the fact that David Howard Thornton and Kaley Hyman are together again. Kaley is also part of the Princess Posse. It is her birthday and she is dressed in perfect Cinderella Blue with her friends who also happen to be dressed in the style of classic Disney Princesses. How good is your Disney trivia.

Now as to why I’m a bit late to reviewing. I don’t go to the theater much anymore. The cost has gotten out of hand and the people who go do not seem to grasp the concept of others are trying to enjoy the movie. I wait till movies come out to streaming. I wanted to purchase this on Apple, but the had it up for pre-order and then took it down in the US. After a month of waiting I reached out to the production company Deskpop Entertainment. They were fantastic and got back to me right away. They also had just finished working with Apple and sent me a link to purchase it. Apple is terrible at having Horror movies, especially the obscure ones on their catalogue. Unfortunatly, 98% of my digital library is wil Apple and I hate having movies all over the place so I waited.

This was a great movie. It’s a fun slasher taking advantage of the public domain. Don’t take it to seriously and just have fun watching it. This was done better than Mouse Trap since this movie actually uses Steamboat Willie as a character. Mouse Trap was a supernatural thriller with a man in a Mickey mask. 🥃🥃🥃🥃, Highly recommend this for a good time.

Since Steamboat Willie is public domain I have no problem linking the full cartoon for your viewing pleasure.
