I’m a huge Ice Nine Kills fan. I joined the Psychos late in their career when I heard A Grave Mistake on SiriusXM Octane when it was a new single off their album The Silver Scream. I became an instant fan with their clever songs about most of my favorite horror movies. Since then I have all their albums, EPS, and some vinyl. I’ve seen all of their music videos and even seen them in concert twice.
The really cool thing about INK is their frontman Spencer Charnas knows his horror and the music videos show it. His love for the movies he sings about comes through in the high production value as well as the larger story the music videos tell.
You read that right. All the the music videos tie into a single story line and this book is the collection of that story. Written in the style of a True Crime novel this follows the story of Spencer’s latest therapist, Doctor Ian Black, on his quest to write the definitive text on serial killers. To do this he is basing it on the dreams Spencer is having and following the deaths that mirror his dreams. Ethics issue maybe????
Each chapter is a title of a track from the album (ie. The American Nightmare, Thank God It’s Friday, and Stabbing In The Dark. Each chapter has a lot of great references to the movies these songs were written about. The references could be dreams of kills directly from the movies, to the names of the actors who played memorable roles in the films. As a horror fan this was such a joy.

As a dedicated Psycho of INK I get all the cool emails of merch I usually can’t afford, but this was a must have. The book is available anywhere sold (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Main Street Books), but the band merch had this limited edition vinyl set. The vinyl is a few chapters read by the one and only Tony Todd. I had really hoped it was going to be a full audio book in vinyl but alas, it was just a taste.
To geek out just a little more, since this was a limited edition pre-order, my copy of the book came signed by Spencer. I have seen his signature on other things posted by fans on social media so even though I can’t read it, it looks like how he signs things.
So not only is the fan in me geeking out I have something signed but the bibliophile (collects or as a great love of books) in me is loving I have a signed, hardback, first edition!!!

So on to the rating. AS a fan this is a fun read, It’s not the greatest book but fun. I give this 🥃🥃🥃 1/2 out of 5. INK fans verywhere, check it out.
I found someone on YouTube who put together all the videos for this album in order. Check them out if you like. This has all the videos for both Silver Scream and Welcome to Horrorwood.
