Horror365Challenge 3/4 year (ish) Progress

This past year I have become very involved in the Mutant Family and Horror Community. Thanks to that involvement I found this challenge. I’m not sure if this has been going on for awhile or if it this was the first year it was put together. Either way this is my first time participating and it came right when I was planning my own.

Every year for the last 3 years I have done a Halloween challenge, which I’ll talk about later, so I thought I would try to watch 1 horror movie I have never seen for each day of the year.

To be clear, this challenge doesn’t have the same restriction i put on myself. this was just a really cool way to share Myst challenge with the community.

This challenge is open to all Horror Visual Media. If you are watching movies, or television of the horror genre you can count it. I will admit, this would have been so much easier, but I’m not easy, no matter what you’ve heard 😁. I like to challenge myself, sometimes for personal grown but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. I can get crazy competative especially with my own goals. It’s a problem.

I’m still getting used to social media and how things work when it comes to these kind of events. I now realize that I should have done a “X” post when I watch a movie and tag the # so there is a thread of what I have watched. This allows me to share with the group what I’m watching it when which has opened some discussion. I will do better next year.

The Halloween challenge I do introduced me to Letterbox and I love it. I use it so much now for all kinds of movie lists and stuff. I relied on that to make my list so forgive me, you will get links to my list to check out and some screen shots. Next year I will do the single posts on X to count them out and a Letterbox list just because I love organization.

So as I reflect on this challenge so far I have decided, mostly, to thrown in the towel on my own challenge. I noticed focusing on all new movies took me away from rewatching my favorites for the 100th time. I do watch-throughs for Nightmare on Elm St, Leprechaun on St Patrick’s Day, the Friday the 13th movies on Friday the 13th, and the Texas Chainsaw Movies on August 18th. I have my own Horror Holidays as well as watching the movies made about the holidays like Halloween, and I don’t miss a single one of them. Don’t get me started on Ash Wednesday.

So yes, I’m a proud member of the Horror Nerds. All these holidays and favorites that I choose to watch over and over got in my way of completing my goal. I’m still planning on watching new Horror to me and logging only that for this years challenge now more out of curiosity. How many New to me Horror movies can I watch in a year?

Here’s my list so far:

New Horror Movie a Day 2023

Speaking of New Movie and Holidays, this leads me into the Halloween Movie Challenge I do. I found this through a Fangoria email a couple of years ago. This was created by Spooky Sarah.

The challenge is to watch 100 never seen by you horror movies in 92 days. This begins August 1 and runs through Halloween. There is no limit or requirement on the daily movie count. Only that you must watch at least 100 movies in the 92-day period.

Here is the full set of guidelines: spookysarahsays.com/100-horror-movies-in-92-days-guidelines

Since there is some overlap I won’t include more images but the first movie in my challenge was Under the Bed. At the time of posting this I am already at 24 movies which is a bit behind, but I have Time. Last year I watched 108 movies so I think I can do it again. Last year as a fun twist for myself I decided to do a watch of all of the Barbara Crampton, Tiffany Shepis, and Jefferey Combs movies I could find on streaming that I had never seen. I was shocked at how many there really were I hadn’t seen.

This year I have decided to catch up on any moves that are now available on streaming that weren’t available last year for Ms. Crampton, Sheppis, and Combs, but this year I decided my primary focus will be on catching up on Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder. I have watched a lot of their movies but I want to fill in the blanks of what I may have missed.

I love the challenge, and I will admit that the celebrities I have chosen have been amazingly wonderful. Barbara Crampton and Tiffany Sheppis have commented on the “Posts” I did on X last year, and Bill Moseley has liked all the posts I have done on his movies so far. He even liked the initial post about my challenge goals. We will see if I get love from Moseley and Hodder when I finish. Either way this is a huge honor to know the celebrities I am idolizing, actually read my posts and take the time to acknowledge them. As a fan that is huge.

If you are part of the Horror365Challenge or have your own holiday horror traditions, let me know. Leave a comment or find me on X.
