Soooooooooo… When I first heard about this movie I had a plethora of emotions run through my mind. I LOVE HORROR!!!! I also really liked Winnie the Pooh as a child and I loved watching the movies and things with my kiddos when they were little. Was I going to hold to my childhood memories and hate what they did to a cherished childhood character, or will i embrace the horror take for a stabbing good time? This is what happens when rights get pushed into the public domain.
Truth be told, the demented/twisted side of me won out and I was so excited. It only got more intense when I saw the trailer. Before I get into the review check it out:
This movie has gotten some serious negative reviews and even has a critics score of 3% on RottenTomatoes.com. No shocker the fan review score shows an evenly divided fan base at 50%. Not saying I’m going to break the tie here but I am going to add my review to this just not officially on RT.
The Synopsis is delivered in an odd pencil sketch cartoon with voice over that seems like it was going for a creepy version of a children’s book but I felt it missed the mark a bit. We are told that Pooh and friends are actually animal human hybrids of some sort and how they and Christopher Robin became friends. As this backstory is being told, this is where the movie gets really dark right at the 1 min, 30 second mark. No time is wasted here.

We find out that Christopher has been feeding the animals to the point they become completely depend on him. When it comes time for Christopher to grow up and go off to college Pooh and friends don’t know how to fend for themselves and begin to starve. To survive, and get away from the point of death, Pooh, Piglet, Owl and Rabbit eat Eeyore!!!! They do make a lovely grave site with a cross and his tail hanging from it to show that some sort of humanity still remains deep within.
Jump forward and we see Christopher and his fiancé roaming the woods looking for his friends in Christopher’s desperate attempt to make his, soon to be wife, realize he isn’t crazy.
Quick change to our actual main character, (I know kind of weird it isn’t Cristopher Robin), Maria (Maria Taylor), on a phycologist’s couch talking about a previous traumatic event. The physiologist suggest a change of scenery to get away from everything that reminds her of the trauma. So Maria gets her girl friends together and goes away for a girl’s trip into the woods for some rest and relaxation. My wife is about to go on her own girls trip and I tried to show her this movie, but she refused. Something about tarnishing cherished childhood memories and blah blah blah. LMAO!!!! She likes Horror and will watch a lot of movies with me but this was a hard pass for her.
This is where the fun begins, as well as the plot holes and other semi-issues with the movie. We know based on the opening, that the creatures have become distrustful of humans, and refuse to speak. However, Christopher has been gone a long time and the house these ladies are staying in seems to have been there for awhile. Why now do they have an issue, is this a air BNB, why would Pooh and Piglet attack now? (Plot Hole)
This movie has some decent kills and is overall a good slasher. I think part of the reason this movie got such bad reviews revolves solely around the fact it is Pooh doing the killing. It’s not the kind of character you’d expect to be so dark. I think if this was Art the Clown, or Michael Meyers, this would have gotten better reviews. It wouldn’t have been the best movie in their respective franchises, but might have gotten a little more love from critics and fans.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie. It was a good slasher and i have already re-watched this. I’m kind of excited to see where the sequel goes now that they have this awkward world set up out of the way. Fingers crossed the next one is just as good, but hopefully better.
I give this movie 🥃🥃🥃 out of 5. I will admit I enjoyed this move more on the second watch. Not sure why exactly but will probably watch it again in the future and glad this is part of my collection. If you’ve seen this, leave your thoughts in the comments. Love to see which side of the fan reviews you fall on.
