My Favorite Things

Hello all. I have done a few Horror posts so far so I figured it was time for something different. Now, if I’m being honest, Horror is a huge aspect of my life and there will be more of those than others (possibly). Once the Blues season starts back up I will have more Hockey related posts but for now, I’m still grieving a horrible season and loss of several of my favorite players to trades. Sports can cut deep. I’m just not in the mood for hockey and I’m only sort of following the playoffs when normally I would pick a team and follow to the end.

This post is going to highlight my current Top 5’s of different categories so you can get to know me better. This will also set the tone for what you can expect from my blog moving forward.

Everyone knows people change and new things come out all the time. So thinking there is a set Top 5 forever is just ridiculous. There may be some explanation but I hope to keep this to a list and allow for comments if you would like more info on something. The bar is open, let’s talk.

SPORTS

Before I rebooted this blog I would have only had 1 item for favorite sport, and that is Hockey!!!! I live and breath for the Saint Louis Blues. I’ve been a fan since I was little and have the collectibles to prove it. MaybeI’ll share some of those in a future post. I have some cool ones. Now, my favorites are:

1. Hockey

2. Soccer (Futbol)

3. Gymnastics

I’m a die hard Blues fan as anyone who has seen my twitter, or knows me personally, would know. I have never been a soccer fan and even found reasons why the sport makes no sense in the past. I still don’t really understand the game or the rules and why the clock counts up. However, since St Louis got our new MLS team my wife and my Father-in-law have been so excited. It’s hard not to catch bits of that or fall into the local pride of it all. I have watched every single game this season except 1 with and without my wife. I wouldn’t say I’m Louligan level fan but I’m hooked.

As for Gymnastics, I was a casual fan and enjoyed watching it on the Olympics. Always an impressive and beautiful sport but not one I was invested in. That all changed ounce my daughter became a gymnast. She just completed her first year in competitions. My anxiety has never been higher, I’m very negative and keep finding ways she could hurt herself, but I’m so proud of her. She is still in the beginning level, but she made the competition team after just a few months and did very well for her age group. This quickly became one of the highlights of my year. I’m such a proud Dad.

Books

The initial purpose of my blog, back when I was on Blogger, was for book reviews. I found a great group of people on Goodreads, and I really enjoyed writing reviews for the books I was reading. All of those reviews can be found on this blog so feel free to work backwards and check it out. Now here are my current all time favorite books. Some of these are tied for 1st and 2nd favorite so I won’t number them just treat them all equally as being 5 star reads.

Music

This is a new category for the blog, but one I’ve done reviews on in the past. My taste in artists and albums can change based on the week. I have my favorite artists which are Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills, Metallica, Ozzy Osborne, and Rob Zombie which hasn’t changed over the years. I’ve just added MIW and INK. My current favorite album is Scoring the End of the World by Motionless in white. This has been my go to consistently since it was released last year. My Apple Music year in review was nothing but this album and I’m still playing it like crazy. Here are the top 5 albums I have been listening to recently.

Movies

This is a tough category also. I could list top 5 favorite Horror movies, and every other genre with 5 titles or more each. I have quite a few movies I continue to go back to for many different reasons. Favorite movie when I’m sick, when I’m sad, when I want to be scared etc… Here are, I think the best over all picks for my top 5 in alphabetical order as to not show favoritism because they are all tied for favorite. I’m well aware there are 6 but I couldn’t make up my mind and it’s my blog so I made a decision.

Spirits

On to the last category which is a new one for the blog. This one may not have as many posts due to just lack of funds for some of the items I’d really like to review. Since moving into the house with this amazing bar, I have been branching out trying new things, and trying my hand at mixed drinks. Primarily, I’m a bourbon guy, but I do have favorites in other types of spirits too. Here is my top 5 list that will be reviewed at some point.

To be fair, I have a favorite Tequila but I don’t know the exact name. My Dad and I have the same birthday and we were having dinner at a family Mexican restaurant. The owners and staff got to know us very well. I decided I was grown up enough to spoil myself and my Dad for our birthday, so I asked our waiter what was the best Tequila they had, and wanted 2 shots of it. It was this dark, smooth, oaky Don Julio tequila that was amazing!!!!. To this day I have no idea exactly what it was just that the cost was normally outrageous for shots, but it was so good I didn’t care. I do remember it was a very skinny bottle in a wooden box. If any of you know what this is, please leave me a note in the comments. I may not be able to buy a bottle but I’d love to know what it was at least.
