Follow Me Friday- Not Part of the Hype

Feature Follow is the day of the week that we get to know each other and make some new friends. This is graciously put on by our hosts Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Each week there is one blog featured by each host and a question to help us break the ice and open discussion. Since I am new to blogging I don’t currently have a preference as to how you follow me. Feel free to follow through bloglovin, email, or GFC. I’m not picky just happy to have the company.

This weeks question is:

What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?
Well there is not much I don’t read these days. I tend to shy away from YA books, but I have read the popular ones. I caved to peer pressure and read Harry Potter even though I was so against it till the 5th book came out. I read the Hunger Games series last year, and I have read a few of the Mortal Instruments series.
One series I haven’t read yet is the Divergent books. I am going to listen to the audio book next. I probably wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for my wife’s love of YA. She said it sounds like something I would really like, so we are going to read it together so we can discuss it. I love reading books with my wife because we have the best detailed discussions.
Now at great risk to opening myself up for ridicule I must admit that the only series I refuse to read is the Twilight saga. I know a ton of people love it, and my wife is one, but I was bored with the movies. Since seeing the movies I have no interest in reading the books. I will not bash the series or complain because I haven’t read it, but I am not a fan of how the vampires are portrayed. To me vampires should be blood thirsty and evil, not emo with teen angst dripping from their fangs instead of blood. Again, my only exposure to this was the movies so my opinion is based off of that. Nothing against the books but they are just not for me.

So, what books have you not read that it seems everyone else has? I love comments and the chance to talk. Happy Friday.

  1. Hopping through. I hardly think admitting you won't read Twilight is opening yourself up for ridicule. Instead, admitting that you love it is what opens people up to ridicule. I'm one of the few who continues to be a fan of the series even though I recognize its faults, of which there are many. Usually I'm the sole person in any group who's willing to defend it.My FF

  2. Well as much ridicule as there is for those who have read the series, I have seen some die hard fans tear people apart for not liking it. I don't quite get all the fighting, if you don't like it then that's that. I was really worried I would offend fans of the series by saying it wasn't for me. Thank you so much for not being harsh on me. I couldn't ridicule you for liking it ever. We all have different things and I'm sure I have read some stuff you wouldn't be a fan of. Thank you for stopping by my post and I always love comments 🙂

  6. That is so cool that you and your wife have great book discussions. And I have to admit I like my vamps any which way I can get em, but I do enjoy the scary kind like in Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series. Those vamps freak me out. Thanks for stopping by and for the follow. I followed back via bloglovin (and GFC cause why not). I look forward to your posts.

  7. Thanks for stopping by. I have always liked my vampires ruthless. The kind who would rip your throat out before you even see them. Then again I liked books like Salem's Lot by King and The Strain by Del Toro.

  9. My #FFI was also hesitant to read the Harry Potter series when it first came out. I didn't start reading until the second book came out. I wasn't really into that kind of read when I was a kid. But I loved it after I fed my brain the first book, and got hooked.I should check out Divergent. I've been hearing good things about it. It's hard to keep up with so many great books coming out all the time.

  10. I think you're totally justified in refusing to read Twilight. When I first read it I loved it, but then again, I was a twelve year old girl, so what did I know then?

  11. I loved Twilight in the beginning, but I was also a teenager with the first few books so I have a whole nostalgia thing going with that series. There is definitely nothing to ridicule about not liking it! Check out my FF  Followed via bloglovin'

  12. I do like Dystopian novels so I figured I'd give it a try. So far I will say what I've read of Divergent is a little slow but I like the characters. I look forward to getting further into it.

  13. Thanks for saying so. I have read so many negative things about fans and those who tear Twilight apart that I was afraid I would cause some upset. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

  15. That's great that you and your wife can have such detailed discussions on books, and I'm glad the two of you will be reading Divergent!! There's definitely nothing wrong with not wanting to read Twilight. Personally I'm a fan, but I know tons of people who dislike them. Everyone is different, and certainly shouldn't be ridicule for liking it, or hating it!!

  17. I haven't read Divergent but am definitely thinking about it, if I can squeeze it into my never ending TBR list that is. I am a fan of the Twilight Saga but understand why you wouldn't want to read it and wouldn't and certainly wouldn't ridicule you for it. It does seem to be more of a female thing lol. I so wish I could get my hubby to read! He would love some of the books I love… But unfortunately, if it isn't anything to do with music or motorbikes then I've got no chance! LolThanks for stopping by my FF.Linsey @ mybooksnthings.com

  18. I have always been a bit of a book nerd as well as a comic book nerd so I feel very lucky to have married a woman who loves books as much as I do. My 3 year old loves to go to the library and get new books, I really hope he wants to be an avid little reader once her learns how. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend.

  19. Divergent seems to be a common answer on this hop. I really enjoyed it myself! 🙂 Not a fan of the Twilight books, so you won't see any bashing from me! Thanks for stopping by my FF, I'm following back.

  20. Thanks for stopping by my FFF! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to come around and visit yours! I hope you're enjoying Divergent – I'll be watching for a review if you do one! I enjoyed the Twilight novels, but I wouldn't try to get my husband to read them – I know he wouldn't enjoy them at all! 🙂
