Happy Thanksgiving/Holiday Kickoff

Hello all and for those who celebrate Thanksgiving in the US, I hope you have something fun planned for the day. Halloween is my favorite holiday but Thanksgiving is second.

You might be surprised to know that I love the holiday not because I get to see family (ick) or that I’m thankful for so much (Family and friends but otherwise this has been a tough year). I like Thanksgiving for a completely selfish reason. This is my time to show off.

I love to cook. Thanksgiving dinner was something I always wanted to challenge myself to make and several years ago we took over hosting the holiday. I make a traditional roasted turkey with garlic herb butter, and I smoke 2 turkey breasts. I also make the mashed potatoes, homemade and KFC copycat gravy, and I make White Castle Stuffing. For those not familiar with White Castle, check out the Recipie Here.

My sister-in-law’s husband is always trying to out do me on everything, especially cooking and grilling which he is not great at. My Thanksgiving dinner is so good, it is the only family even he is happy to come to and always goes in for seconds. Yes, it is childish and petty but I love it. The cleaning has already begun and there is still so much to do before Thursday.

Since this is the Monday before Thanksgiving, I also get to jump into a new horror movie challenge. Sarah Stubbs, creator of (#100HorrorMoviesin92Days) has created the Horror Movies for the Holidays challenge. Check out the details Here.

The challenge goes from the Monday before Thanksgiving and ends January 2. The basic challenge is to watch one holiday themed Horror movie a day which means this year the total is 40 movies.

I have already kicked this off with 2 movies today. So far I watched:

Ok, I get it these are the craziest, cheesiest movies and ThanksKilling 3 is truly terrible. However, if you are a completist like me, if you watch 1 you have to watch 3. For those of you who don’t know, there isn’t a ThanksKilling 2 and the whole plot of ThanksKilling 3 is basically why there isn’t a ThanksKilling 2.

My initial choices aside, there are a good amount of great Thanksgiving movies. Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday are my favorites. This year we are going to watch Thanksgiving with the kids so we are going to watch that tomorrow night. We are going to be busy on Wednesday night getting ready for hosting and there is a hockey game on so Tuesday it is. My wife and I always watch Black Friday on the Friday after Thanksgiving because we both spent many years in retail and this movie is so much fun now that we are not in retail but have had the experience.

Out of curiosity I did a search on Thanksgiving Horror Movies to see if there are any I haven’t heard of and found a pretty good article from Screen Rant. You can read it Here if you are interested. This is titled the 10 Scariest Thanksgiving Horror Movies Ranked, but there are one or two on this list that are not even labeled as horror on IMDB or Letterbox, so I feel that is a bit of a stretch. Everyone’s opinion is valid so check them out for yourself and you decide. There are a couple on this list I haven’t seen and if I can find them streaming somewhere I will check them out.

I will be doing a wrap up of all the Holiday Horror movies I watched at the end of the challenge and will talk about those that are my favorites. Whether they are ones I watched every year, or a new one that has now become a new tradition.

Let me make you a drink and tell me, what are your favorite holiday movie traditions, Horror or non Horror movies?
