I have been very active in #BookSky lately. I have found so many authors I have never heard of before, and so many amazing horror novels. This is a really hard post to write, I could go on and on and on about all the amazing books I have read from Stephen Graham Jones, Ronald Malfi, Josh Malerman, Joe Hill and many many more.
Now I feel bad I only highlighted male authors when I have read some amazing work from women as well. Home is where that Bodies are by Jeneva Rose, Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito , and The Ghostwriter by Julie Clark are just a few of the amazing works I have read this past year. For this year’s post I have decided to choose books that have that classic autumn Halloween feel.
First up, since I already posted about the movie version, is Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge. I gave this a 4 shots review on Goodreads. I love the feeling I get from reading it. This is a kind of Long Walk, Hunger Games dystopian kind of story with the chosen male child of a family starved for days only to be released on a hunt for a walking Pumpkin they call Sawtooth Jack. Jack has been stuffed with candy giving these starving teens even more incentive to hunt and kill. The one who kills Sawtooth Jack wins escape from the town and on to a better life.

The next book I highly recommend is All Hallows written by Christopher Golden. It’s Halloween night in 1984 and while everyone is excited for trick or treating; four children walk out of the woods dressed in vintage costumes begging for help and protection from The Cunning Man. I highly recommend this book and it was a solid 4.5 shots review.
For my final pick for this week, I recommend one of my favorite Halloween stories, Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. An absolute 5 shot book which I had either read or listened to the dramatize audio version every year since I first read this in 2010.
The carnival is in town and beckons to the residents of Green Town, Illinois. Two boys will find out the steep cost of wishes and the stuff of nightmares. This is such a great read and I love this one.

I had fun with this post. I put a lot of thought into what books made me feel like crisp breezy days with the sound of dried leaves blowing across the lawn. This really makes me want to re-read all of these. Hope you find these as much fun as I did if you have read them, or read them because of this post. Happy Hump Day of Halloween Week.
