Halloween Movies for the Season

So; how many of you thought I was going to talk about the Halloween franchise with Micheal Myers in this post? Show of hands. Well, I will admit that I do a full Halloween watch through every year. I either start it a week or two before Halloween so I end on Halloween, or I start on Halloween and take it into November. This year I started 2 weeks early to end on Halloween. However, I was on vacation last week and out of town for 3 of those days so I didn’t watch any horror while I was out of town. Then I had to join the MutantFam for Joe Bob’s Splatterween on Friday night. Not sure I am going to make it to end on Halloween.

So lets talk movies to get into the season vibe. Well… Watching Joe Bob’s Splatterween on Shudder last Friday brought to light the first movie I am going to recommend. I really enjoyed this movie and it, in my opinion, really helps you get into the Halloween state of mind. This is the movie version of Adan Cesare’s Clown in a Cornfield. Based on a series of Young Adult books this movie is great for getting into the Halloween mood. Also a great movie to transition from gateway horror, into more main stream horror. A little more gore but otherwise wholesome.

My next one is going to (Spoiler Alert) double on the Books post. That being said, I really loved the book. This is one of those movies that did a good job of staying true to the book. This next movie to get you in the Halloween spirit is Dark Harvest.

Next up. Who doesn’t love a good hayride or corn maze? I absolutely love Bill Moseley. there is not one movie I have seen him in I didn’t like. Mr. Moseley is very active on Twitter and he was so kind to not only like my posts (when I was on there) but he also responded. I do really wish he made the jump to BlueSky but I understand staying where the most interaction is. Still, I absolutely love this movie based around a struggling Farm who is trying to stay fresh and bring in Halloween traffic. This was such a hidden gem I have to mention it.

My last entry into this post is going to be two fold. I love an anthology and my personal favorite for a good Halloween setting is Tales of Halloween. In my opinion this is the best Halloween anthology out there but I understand all those who will fight me on this.

Probably the more popular option is Trick r’ Treat. It’s a great movie, don’t get me wrong. I love the Sam character and would buy all kinds of Sam merch. I do have a Trck R’ Treat Sam shirt from Fright-Rags I wear proudly daily. I just prefer Tales of Halloween to get me into the Halloween Spirit.

So these are some of my favorite movies to get me into the Halloween spirit. Hope you take time to check these out if you haven’t. If you have seen these, what are some of your favorites to get you in the spirit? Let me know and maybe they will end up in next year’s post. I’d love more bar engagement. Let’s start to include my patrons. Now pull up a stool and place your order. We are just getting into the discussion.
